Working for You
The Atlanta University Center Neighborhood Association (AUCNA) is nestled in a historic Atlanta community, a community that is a source of pride because of its longstanding tradition of educating African American students. The Atlanta University Center neighborhoods are rich in history and culture and feature unique architectural styles and well-maintained homes. Preserving and protecting Atlanta University Center neighborhoods is no easy task, which is why AUCNA is essential to the AUC community.
We Advocate
The AUCNA is composed of groups of residents who come together to promote the welfare and preservation of the AUC community. We work together to address specific issues facing the neighborhood, such as zoning, development, and/or crime. However, because of the historic nature of our community, we also focus on preservation and protection. As an organization, one of our primary roles is to advocate for the preservation of the area's unique architectural and cultural heritage. This can be done through lobbying for local historic designation or working with city officials to establish zoning laws that protect historic properties.
We Educate
Another important role of AUCNA is to educate residents and visitors about the area's history and culture. AUCNA will work to help organize tours, events, and publications that highlight the AUC neighborhood’s unique characteristics, which helps to raise awareness and appreciation of the AUC neighborhood's heritage, which in turn can lead to increased efforts to preserve it.
We Help Foster a Sense of Community
The AUCNA also plays an important role in fostering a sense of community among residents. In historic neighborhoods, where properties can be expensive, and homeownership is often a long-term commitment, a strong sense of community is essential for maintaining the area's character and charm. The AUCNA provides opportunities for residents to come together, whether it's for a block party or a neighborhood clean-up, which helps to build connections and foster a sense of pride in the area.
We Provide a Voice for Community Members
The AUCNA plays an important role in providing a voice for residents when it comes to development and zoning issues. In historic communities like the Atlanta University Center, new development can often be a controversial topic. The AUCNA provides an opportunity for residents to come together and discuss potential issues and advocate for solutions that will benefit the entire community.
Neighborhood associations like the AUCNA are essential for the preservation and protection of historic communities. They provide a voice for residents, advocate for preservation, educate the public, and foster a sense of community. If you live in a historic neighborhood, consider getting involved with your local neighborhood association to help protect and preserve your community's unique heritage.
